“Go into a forest.
Choose a tree.
Wrap your arms around it and give it a hug
for as long as you feel the need.
Over time, it will become your friend.
You could even give it a name.”
Forest bathing (sylvotherapy) is very common in Japan. It’s a widely recognized relaxation technique. So, don’t be shy. Dare to wrap your arms around a tree. And if you don’t dare at first, or if there are people around you, at least lean your back against it. That way, you’ll still be able to capture its beneficial energy.
Hugging a tree reduces stress, strengthens the immune system, and reassures and oxygenates the mind. Soon, you won’t be able to do without.
